“In Lieu of Comfort”

I recently delivered a casket spray and one garden stone to a funeral service being held for a very young man tragically struck with a brain injury. He saved many lives with organ donation. His family is grieving and the scene lended little comfort. There was a total of 5 sympathy gifts and flowers there. The room was bare and cold feeling without flowers. I truly understand why a family would want donations to go to a worthy charity but I don’t believe they mean NO flowers. People should donate as requested but should remember how the family will feel walking into a cold, bare room where they will express their final goodbye to their loved one. I felt sad for the family. Flowers are a tangible expression of caring. Please don’t forget the flowers.
